Mark Cochrane

film maker, photographer, self employed in Cairns Australia

My style of work spawned from a project of "Nan and Pop's" travel adventures ( using model dolls, a vintage model car and model retro caravan. Playing with my much loved old toys, I experimented with old school lenses and photographic techniques that change perspective and alter reality. The toys and models are photographed in situ and not superimposed, and are presented with a charm of a bygone era with wit, sarcasm and political comment. By playing with perspective I can juxtapose elements and represent things with a different form and meaning. It's a project literally with a life of its own that gathered a social media following whilst I traveled uploading Nan and Pop's "holiday snaps". The works that spawned from this project have since found their way into several exhibitions and has been enjoyed by all ages. A new series "Save the Robots" featuring my retro tin red Robot, 'menacing' the town of Cairns, has been featured in exhibitions and newspapers as well as being a finalist in 'Inkmasters". "Save the Robots" and new '3D' works from the "Nan and Pop" series are currently exhibited in the TANKS gallery in Cairns for their Tropical Mardi Gras "GAZE" 2016 exhibition.
