Laina Brown

Photographer in Winnipeg Canada

I'm an art student and owner of Laina Brown Photography. My work has taken me to spaces like Winnipeg’s "Meet Me at the Bell Tower", to spaces like Auschwitz and Treblinka with the March of Remembrance and Hope, to the boarders of Eastern Turkey, and to beautiful weddings all across Western Canada. In each place it is the people she is most interested in, and how they make meaning from their environments.

Digital Photography is a unique artistic medium. Through light, the camera immediately renders an image of a scene. Yet this is not strictly observation (or an objective viewpoint). The technicalities of the quality of light, the way you frame something, the way you engage your subjects, the angle, the colours…it all communicates something. This is why each photographer is unique and has their own eye and story to tell.

I hope my work shows real people and honest moments that convey a feeling. I believe each person is worthy of being an artwork.

Compassion is Photography

BY LAINA BROWN
@ VOL 28 ON NOV 24, 2016

Laina Brown is an art student at the U of M, a social advocate, and owner of her own business Laina Brown Photography. She loves to enter into people’s monumental events or everyday lives to document and artistically render their memories as a collaborator with them. This love has taken her to spaces like Winnipeg’s “Meet Me at the Bell Tower”, to spaces such as Auschwitz and Treblinka with the March of Remembrance and Hope, to the boarders of Eastern Turkey, and to beautiful weddings all across Western Canada. In each place it is the people she is most interested in, and how they make meaning from their environments - listening and compassion as the keys to successful photography.
