Judith Bandidt

Writer in Palmwoods Australia

A typesetter and editor by trade, a writer by inclination, Judith Bandidt has spent much of her life in country areas of Queensland. Her writing often reflects her rural roots and her love of the land and its people.

A published author of computer software, educational texts, non-fiction prose works, adult fiction and short stories, Judith enjoys exploring other genres, particularly children's books and poetry. She thinks deeply about what is going on in the world around her and finds poetry an expressive and satisfying medium for channelling her thoughts and feelings about life and its challenges, conflicts past and present, and the interconnectivity that binds the planet and its people together.

Judith lives in the Sunshine Coast hinterland with her husband. Apart from her passion for writing, her interests include travel, preserving the natural environment, photography, the empowerment of women, gardening, community volunteering, mentoring, and racing thoroughbred horses.

Her most recent community arts project is the establishment of a poetry trail in the Sunshine Coast hinterland.

A poetic vision - the Sunshine Coast poetry trail

BY JUDITH BANDIDT
@ VOL 25 ON FEB 28, 2018

The Sunshine Coast Pente Poets (including Judith Bandidt, Deanne Lister and Lyn Browne) set off on a mission to bring poetry to the people by making it accessible within the local environment. The first year of their grassroots community project saw the poets investigate a variety of Sunshine Coast locations from 'hinterland to headland', exploring innovative ways of embedding poetry in natural, and built environments and writing about what they discovered. A cross-arts sculptural approach has since been used linking the visual arts with the literary arts through the creation of public art pieces with poetry as an intrinsic element.

The Hinterland Poetry Trail took shape during 2016 and 2017 at three sites. Inspiration for both poetry and sculptures was drawn from the history, heritage and unique environments of the three locations.
