Ian Dommisse

Architect, Self Employed Freelancer in Cape Town South Africa

Ian Dommisse is an architect and social entrepreneur. He received his master’s degree in architecture in 2012 from Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University and has gained industry experience in the built environment since then.
In 2013 he founded The EcoBrick Exchange (EBE), a social enterprise which builds structures of value using upcycled plastic waste.
In 2014 the EBE won a Social Innovation Award grant from the SAB Foundation which contributed to the pilot preschool’s development.
Further support was achieved in 2015 when the EBE was recognised by the United Nations through the SEED Awards for Entrepreneurship within Sustainable Development at the symposium held in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ian was selected as one of the 2016 Redbull Amaphiko Social Entrepreneurs and is currently receiving their support towards developing the enterprise.

The Fun Side of Waste Management

Why is waste management only ever seen as a chore/headache/mission? What if it was rather about fun and games, creativity and curiosity? Over the last 3 years the EcoBrick Exchange has tested out various approaches of implementing self-sustaining waste economies, and the journey has been colorful, bright and worth sharing. Ian Dommisse explains.
