Exhibition "Design Ah!" Channel

PechaKucha teamed up with 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT as part of the "Design Ah!" exhibition to produce two special events on March 23rd. One for kids, where they made and presented their 20x20s in an open workshop. The other for 'grown-ups' was part of Roppongi Art Night, and featured an inspiring lineup of design talent.

Inside the Scottish Political Archive

Sarah presents unique and rare photos of Scottish politicians, interesting political campaign materials, including comments on Tatcher Government, as well as Scottish devolution referendum debate materials from 1979 and 1997 that allow comparing the agendas of the past with the ongoing debate.

A Political Cartoonist Returns to His Roots, A Group of Painters, and Amsterdam's Modern Canopy

Presentations Clay Bennett is a political cartoonist who left Alabama for Massachusetts, only to find himself returning to his Southern roots by way of a move to Tennessee, and more specifically, Chattanooga. He tells his story in his presentation (from PKN Chattanooga Vol. 10), highlighting each part with with a selection of his cartoons. Eva Štybrava is the founder of a group of painters called the Saint Thomas Five. Her presentation (in Czech, from PKN Plzen Vol. 1) offers up a selection of their works, as well as revealing their process. He shares a few of his fascinating projects and talks about why he loves performance art.

When Art and Science Collide

“I wanted to learn the beautiful mechanism of the universe, nature, and life. So i studied biology and chemistry in my university. And that’s when i thought ‘how cool would it be to integrate all of this into art?’” In When Art and Science Collide from PechaKucha Night Tokyo Vol. 132,  contemporary artist and science researcher Yoko Shimizu details her work. One may think that art and Science are total opposites but not Yoko. She finds that the beauty of the scientific principles that surround us to be timeless, limitless, and inspirational. Yoko –who has won many awards her scientific artworks– creates installations that integrate both art and science.

Barn Quilts: Art in the Community from Accident Vol. 3, Cheryl DeBerry discusses the Barn Quilt project which started in Ohio and has spread across America. Cheryl and others brought this art movement to Garrett County, Maryland. This project spruces up barns, encourages artists, and brings the community together.
