One Poster A Day

On January 1st 2014, the German designer Marcel Häusler made the new year resolution to design a poster every day for a whole year. At first glance, not a hard task for an energetic graphic designer with a predilection for typography. To be inspired daily turned out to be an exciting challenge.

Every day, 365 days in a row, Marcel published his designs on the blog oneposteraday.com. After a full year the series interweaved with everyday personal experiences, contemporary issues and world news provides a colorful image of 2014.

Seattle Over the Next 20 Years

We've already covered that Seattle is celebrating its 50th PechaKucha Night this week (on January 30) -- Seattle is in fact our "City Focus" this week -- but here's also a look at the event poster. What's the theme? PechaKucha Seattle, the City of Seattle and the Seattle Art Museum are collaborating for Big Ideas – Imagining Seattle’s Future, 2035 & Beyond.  The evening will bring together presentations by leaders from across Seattle’s innovation/creation community to explore shared visions for Seattle’s future to inspire Seattle 2035, a year-long citywide conversation to guide the update of the city’s 20-year comprehensive plan. We really have to hand it to St. Neots for the all the jubilation that went into their festive poster this week. Despite it only being their second instalment of PKN, they held back no creativity in proclaiming the PechaKucha spirit here! Next PKN in Brighton - 3rd September

PechaKucha in Brighton is back, this time with a 'Japan Brighton' theme and another stellar line-up, including Children’s Laureate Chris Riddell (who uses a Japanese brush in his illustrations), Manga artist Inko, origami furniture designer Coco Sato, fabulous print-maker (and one of Kirsty Allsop's upcycling experts) Lee Baker, and former PK Brighton organisers Branwen Lorigan and Julie Watson. Join Viva Brighton's Alex Leith and artist Zara Wood a.k.a Woody at Yellowave, Madeira Drive, on Thursday 3rd September. Doors open 6.30pm with the talks running, with a break, between 7pm - 9pm. Participants will be around afterwards for a chat.
