Monsters of the Deep:Big and Small

BY ED MCGINLEY
@ VOL 5 ON OCT 28, 2014

Flagler professor Ed McGinley gives us a little insight at what we can find at the bottom of the ocean. From Dumbo octopus to bottom dwellers, there are more species at the bottom of the ocean than we can count. However, because of how we treat our trash, that ends up killing these uniqu looking creatures before we even get to discover them.

Dumb, Lazy, and Unruly Perfectionist

BY VASCO MOURÃO
@ VOL 132 ON JAN 27, 2016

“If you told me six years ago that I could do this I would never believe you… Because really, I’m lazy as a panda, I'm not very smart, and I have difficulty focusing on one thing at one time. So i had to create a system, a strategy to sit and draw, because I really love to draw. ”

In Dumb, Lazy, and Unruly Perfectionist from PechaKucha Night Tokyo’s 132nd Volume, Speaker Vasco Mourão, an Architect turned illustrator with a tendency for obsessive drawing and detail, explains his creative process. The Barcelona-native explains that by keeping a simple, manageable, distraction free routine, he argues that one does not have to be very smart or productive to produce great works.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Friday, February 19th, 2016.

Why I Dumped My Trash Can: A Very Necessary Breakup

BY ANAMARIE SHREEVES
@ VOL 30 ON AUG 21, 2016

Anamarie Shreeves became a self professed zero-waster and she excelled at it. One year of waste, of actual trash, fit inside one Bell's canning jar! But being a zero-waster is not the whole story... Why not recycle? It's great, right?? Perhaps there is more to the story...

Dumb Luck / Big Hustle

BY MICHAEL HYP

Crazy things happened to me because of dumb luck. This was one of them, and it damn well changed my life.

He spends his off hours creating music that is not meant to be listened to, raising two kids and one 3-legged dog. Cricket for Dummies

Do you know the difference between a Batsman and a Wicketkeeper? Do you long to make the pilgrimage to England's Lords pitch? Can you shoot a square drive with a flat-fronted willow-wood blade? If you answered "yes" to any of the above questions, this presentation isn't for you. PKN Brooklyn in the News

As we covered the other day, Brooklyn recently saw the launch of a new PechaKucha Night series, and here's Technically Brooklyn with some coverage of that first event. PechaKucha started in Tokyo eleven years ago and has spread to 774 cities. Usually, there are more than 100 events each month. A new branch just opened up in Dumbo at the Galapagos Art Space last Thursday, though there has been a branch in Manhattan for a while. (This wasn’t quite Brooklyn’s first such event, but it was the first official event, with more to follow.)
