Actress Emi Jingu became fascinated by balloons about 5 years ago. Since then she has been creating fashion with balloons as the material for her designs and now she has received many awards at international and domestic balloon contests. This January, she won the first prize at the national competition of balloons held in Las Vegas.

Just a few years ago it seemed like everything was going my way. I was enjoying a successful career as a freelance writer. I was traveling the country speaking and emceeing events such as San Francisco Pride with hundreds of thousands of people cheering and laughing. I was on fire. I was on my path. I was “on.” Yet, there I was a few years later, tying ribbons to balloons at Edible Arrangements for $8/hr. What happened? How did it come to this? And more importantly, what was I going to do to get my life back? This is my comeback story. The two things I did to get my life back.

One of the presentations that quite literally blew the crowd away at last week's PechaKucha Night in Tokyo Vol. 71 was by Rie Hosokai (Daisy Balloon) as she showed off her amazing balloon designs -- yes, every single item you'll see in the presentation, including the flowers and the dresses, was created out of balloons.

In this edition of Presentation of the Day, artist Rie Hosokai (along with designer Takashi Kawada; the duo is Daisy Balloon) showcases some of her group's recent projects. This presentation was part of Roppongi Art Night 2013. 21_21 DESIGN SIGHT teamed up with the global PechaKucha organization for two very special sessions of 20x20 presentations -- part of the exhibition "Design Ah!" -- starting with a kids workshop during the day that was followed by a presentation session, and then a regular PechaKucha event for adults in the evening.
