The Joy of Painting
BY IDC ARCHITECTS KUCHING
@ VOL 6
ON APR 28, 2018
June was only 5 when she held her first paint brush. Encouraged by her father, artist Raphael Scott Ahbeng, she was free to paint anything she wanted from his leftover colours. Colours have the simple ability to evoke feelings of happiness, an idea that she loves. With an illustrative and narrative quality, her paintings are simultaneously comforting and intriguing.
June draws her inspiration and ideas from her travels abroad. But she also hopes to see more budding artists in Kuching as inspiration and subjects are plentiful here. From nature, street life, coastal areas, kampungs to the plants in our backyards, our daily lives can be enriched with colour.

BY RACHEL MASON
@ VOL 2
ON OCT 16, 2014
Rachel Mason talks, sings, and strums about the place where art and life, or fiction and reality meet... While doing research for a musical performance and rock opera to get inside the mind of a child killer from the 1930's, she made contact with a man who killed and dismembered a boy in Borough Park. The experience profoundly effected her, and inspired her to write an opera incidentally about a coincidence - two men with the same name Hamilton Fish, died a day apart and their deaths were announced on a single front page. One man was a child-killing sadist, the other a politician from a distinguished political family.

Complicating Things: Experimenting with Authority
BY PAUL VANOUSE
@ VOL 17
ON SEP 15, 2016
“I’m a bio media artist. And what that means is I work self-reflexively, with the tools and technologies of the life sciences.”
In Complicating Things: Experimenting with Authority from PechaKucha Buffalo vol. 17, Professor of Art at the University at Buffalo, Paul Vanouse, provides an overview of his work as a bio media artist. As Director of the newly created Coalesce Center for Biological Art at the University at Buffalo, Vanouse works with artists and philosophers and people who wouldn’t normally have a direct connection to do create work in a life sciences laboratory, and is actively engaged with Coalesce’s artist residency program. Vanouse’s own work has recently focused on DNA fingerprinting, removing the inherent layers of authority from DNA with an interest in the very visual representation of DNA. His recent projects, Latent Figure Protocol and Ocular Revision use molecular biology techniques to challenge “genome-hype” and to confront issues surrounding DNA fingerprinting.

PechaKucha Night Kuching Vol.2
Kuching is a little city on the island of Borneo where Art is a small but growing industry. Hence, we were pleasantly surprised that the first PechaKucha Night Kuching of 2016 that we organized last month on the 1st April 2016 was a huge success!! Look at the amount of people that filled up the Granary Bar + Kitchen that night! We had 10 presenters in different creative industries talking about how they found their passions and how they are pursuing it. Do watch them on our city's page! They range from photographers, collectors, painters, designers and so on. The next PKN is scheduled on 1st July 2016, Friday 8.20pm. We're looking at a better, bigger and equally as inspiring / entertaining night. more pictures can be found HERE. :D Till next time! Take care!
