Conceived of and designed by KBAS, an experimental spatial design firm recently re-launched as Knoxville Bureau of Air and Space, DRONOPOD incorporates advanced digital production and fabrication technologies, large-scale 3d-printing, drones and augmented reality (AR) in order to charge Knoxville with a new type of urban imaginary.Keith Kaseman forecasts a time when drones will be as ubiquitous as smart phones. Corrie has used 3D-printing technology to engineer proto-cells (structures that look like real cells -- they include a nucleus and cell walls -- but not made from anything living). Ready to use, hot off the 3D-presses! Architect Oscar Glottman talks about a unique 3D-printing technology called MGX by Materialise. In "3D-Printed for Daily Life" from PKN Miami Vol. 23, we learn that the defining feature of this particular method allows products to be printed from the machine nearly completly assembled. With creations ranging from jewelry to furniture, 3D printing utilizes both mathematic equations and organic compositions to create unique, usable designs that are ready to use not long after their creation.

PK 2 - Chupacabra! Check out Glen Vigus's interview in the Eagle! We had an amazing evening and met lots of new friends. Suresh Pillai, Professor of Microbiology, talked about using electrons to help clean, heal, feed and shape the world. Artist Karen Hillier showed work from her series “Unforgotten,” involving artifacts from the daily ablutions of her grandparents. Richard Lester brought a horde of young entrepreneurs who all joined in to share news from the Center for New Ventures and Entrepreneurship, where he serves as Executive Director. Russell Reid, architect and artist, reflected on the process of artmaking from analog to digital and back. Technologist Benedict Nguyen shared the amazing world of 3D scanning and printing. Amateur photographer Glen Vigus led us through the history of photography, and inspired us with 32 years of love and pride in his work, earning his title of amateur.
