He has also contributed reviews and essays on the American war in Vietnam, The New Republic’s centennial anthology, and Section 2 of the 14th Amendment. As a teenager, he was once expelled from a summer-study program in Madison after a regrettable misunderstanding about the definition of drug paraphernalia. He holds no grudge against the city.
