The difference between smart and intelligent

PRESENTED ON FEB 09, 2016
IN STOCKHOLM @ VOL 55

Tobias Berneth, Founder of Things to Be, discusses the question "Why can't smart technology be smarter?" he challanges this question by comparing technology. What is the difference between smart and intelligent products? We have smart products – products that can store, and deliver information. The intelligent product would be able to recognize redundancies and patterns of information.

Smart products await your input. Do you loose time by using smart products? By using intelligent products, would you be given time, as the product is constantly changing after your needs?

Berneth compares these intelligent products to making new friends. He asks, "How do you design something that collects your data?”. It’s like making friends, make products that people can communicate with in a human way and that can understand how you do it.

Vuoto a (p)rendere

BY NEOSTUDIO | ELEONORA BURLANDO, RICCARDO MISELLI
@ VOL 8 ON MAY 08, 2014

The void is Smart! beacause it is unitary, secret, but also diversified, open, collective. The void is a primary resource for humans, starting with the fact that it is above all place within which it is possible to establish relationship between subjects, objects and places.
Vuoto a (p)rendere is a research axis of Neostudio oriented to the enhancement of the space starting from two main aspects: on the hand the identification and amplification of the specific qualities - both evident that latent - of the context, on the other hand the extension of the potential of fruition places through the establishment of a new balance between public and private domain, between inside and outside, between permanent and temporary.

Smart about our Shit

BY BARBARA PENNER
@ TOTO TOILET ARCHITECTURE ON SEP 16, 2014

Being smart about our "shit", is what may save us in the future.

Barbara Penner expresses her academic knowlegde of toilets and what goes into them. How much do we flush away, and what people can do to conserve their waste, not only the "stuffs" that goes through us, but the water that is going through the pipes as well. It doesn't take a 'rocket surgeon' to know, that in developing countries, water is scarce and highly valued. So it is a opportunity to develope toilets that do not need the use of water, and uses our human wastes intellegently.
