Improv Madness: The Day I Followed My Boss Home

@ VOL 17 ON APR 14, 2016

Improv Madness: Comedians from 2 local Improv Troops made 20x20 presentations for each other. The audience suggested the topic, in this case, "The Day I Followed My Boss Home." Hilarity ensued.

Vanessa Tortolano is the co-owner and founder of NessAlla Kombucha. When she’s not trying to take over the world with her home grown bacteria-yeast hybrids she affectionately refers to as her “booch” army, Vanessa is probably thinking about how to take over the world with her home grown bacteria-yeast hybrids affectionately referred to as her “booch” army. She joined Monkey Business Institute in 2010 as a means to find the perfect comedy WMD to arm her booch troops. She’ll readily admit that her world takeover plan needs a little more time to ferment. Aside from that she also sings and plays instruments. Drink kombucha.

Improv Madness: What I Learned from My Time Travels

@ VOL 17 ON APR 14, 2016

Edmond Ramly born in Beirut, he grew up hearing fantastical stories of a place where the streets were paved with cheese. He decided early on to leave behind the Mediterranean climate of year-round comfortable mild weather and feta scented breezes to travel to the harsh and godforsaken land of Wisconsin where cheddar was the only currency. It was here he realized that tragedy + cheese = comedy at which point he joined Atlas Improve Company by winning the gladiator-style laugh-to-the-death called “The Cut” in 2013. Edmond is still working to improve his usage and pronunciation of common Wisconsin flavored idioms “Youbettcha,” “Oh den dare now” and “Whachagonna do?”

20 Random Slides #PKGRvX

@ VOL 10 ON SEP 15, 2015

In 2010 we began what we call "20 Random Slides" where we pick someone out of the audience to present slides they've NEVER seen.  Literally, once they stand on stage the craziness began and in September 2015 we didn't prep the audience but were lucky enough to have a bonafied comedian in our room to take on this challenge.  He did it beautifully!

20 Random Slides (PKGRv7)

@ VOL 7 ON FEB 05, 2014

We've gained quite a reputation for attracting the brave to our stage with our "20 Random Slides" segment.  It all began when a blizzard hit and we had only half our speakers show up so a few brave veterans got up on stage and presented someone else's material.  The next show "20 Random Slides" was born and one more later here we are again for the 2nd time!

Bart is a veteran of our stage both as Emcee, Speaker, and 20 Random Slide speaker and gets better every time!

20 Random Slides (PKGRv5)

@ VOL 5 ON OCT 30, 2012

The first official "20 Random Slides" features the passing of the batton from David Foster as curator and city manager of PKGR to Dan Terpstra when David created slides that were a mystery before it began.  Now we are over 10 more "20RS" all created by co-organizer Michele Terpstra but this is where it all began!

Random Slides Improv

@ VOL 12 ON APR 19, 2018

Andy Sawyer is a set designer, inventor, maker, fine art photographer, innkeeper, outdoorsman, teacher, artist, tree-hugging dirt worshiper, and an improvisational comedian. He began his improv comedy career over 30 years ago, using humor as a tool for teaching environmental science at Stone Environmental School in Portland, Maine. After moving back to the Twin Cities to woo and eventually marry the one true love of his life, Nita Nicholie, the two collaborated to help establish the “Calling all Colors” program. Andy again applied improv comedy to this program, using it as a tool for children to begin dialogue on issues of race, stereotyping, and skin color. He next began working with Mike Nadolski at Bridges Theater in Benton Harbor as an ensemble member of the production of “No Waiting in the Loitering Room”, and a community literature-based show based on The Giver by Lois Lowry. Smarty Pants improv was his next stop, where along with his wife Nita, Joey and Jason Greene and Mike Nadolski he performed a weekly family friendly improv show at The Livery in Benton Harbor for close to 2 years. He is a founding member of TORP, and has performed in numerous local murder mysteries and corporate video productions. In an emergency, he can honestly say, “I am not a doctor, but I played one on TV.” He and his wife have raised 23 children over the past 24 years and they have found that the fundamental principle of improv, “Yes, And”, can also be a way of life.
