27 Million

BY AMY HEAGUE
@ VOL 2 ON JUN 26, 2014

“Not only is each victim the one, but we likewise can be the one.

The one called, the one listening, the one willing, the one sent to bring freedom and justice to innocent ones who are suffering. Being overwhelmed by the numbers is an indulgence the oppressed can ill afford.”

The statistics and numbers are overwhelming. There are currently an estimated 27 million men women & children held in slavery across the globe. Hundreds of thousands are trafficked across international borders every year. Many young girls find themselves trapped in a hell most of us could never imagine… The overwhelming statistics took Amy Heague to Cambodia. The one made her see she can do something that might just change the numbers.

A Hundred Words about a Trillion

BY EMILY INGLIS
@ VOL 33 ON APR 22, 2016

Emily Inglis - gardener and artist

If you are not an astrophysicist or a global economist a trillion is an abstract number, too big to grasp. How big is it? What does it buy? In my talk I will be comparing and contrasting what a trillion is worth. Looking at monetary value globally. How serious is national debt? How much would it cost to buy Wales? If you had enough money could you buy a unicorn? Or a house in Mayfair? These questions will be probed.

Celebrating Illustrators and Tokyo

BY THE TOKYOITER
@ VOL 138 ON JUL 27, 2016

"We were documenting Tokyo a lot, but even though we might draw Tokyo tower three times, because of our different background and where we come from, there will be three different outcomes which we thought was really interesting."

In Celebrating Illustrators and Tokyo from PechaKucha Night Tokyo Vol. 138, David Robert and Andrew Joyce share on The Tokyoiter project. The Tokyoiter is willing to present the talent of artists and the wonderful and inspiring city of Tokyo to a larger audience. Every cover of this imaginary magazine and tribute to The New Yorker and The Parisianner is a celebration of creativity and one of the best city on earth.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Friday, September 2nd, 2016.
