's presentation from PechaKucha Night Bexhill-on-Sea Vol. 1 opens with the most essential image of the colour red in photography: the safe light in a darkroom, and moves through a collection of images and wide ranging associations with blood, danger, sex, sacrifice, socialism and courage.

While some colour choices may seem obvious (such as red to represent blood), there is much more history, nuance and interpretation than meets the eye.
