2013 Tohoku Artist Caravan

In April of 2013, the Tohoku Artist Caravan project will bring artists and musicians from all over Japan to gather in Karakuwa, Kesennuma, to create public art that will help revitalize a community devastated by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The initial installations will be completed over a three-day period, culminating in an opening party featuring a an impressive array or renowned musicians. (in English and Japanese)

Visual Art Initiatives in the St. Roch Neighborhood: The SRCC Artist Residency and Staple Goods

Historically, New Orleans has been a city that nourishes and generates creativity amongst artists who stop in, stay for a period, or call it home.  The artist residency at St. Roch Community Church, as well as the collective and gallery space entitled Staple Goods, both aim to further galvanize the St. Roch and St. Claude neighborhoods of New Orleans in keeping such tradition.  Aaron Collier coordinated the inception of both of these enterprises with the sole intention of providing artists with opportunities in a neighborhood that has been, and continues to be, a gift to him and his family.

I Am An Artist, We Are Artists

New Orleans based graphic artist and teacher, Amanda LaPlaca, discusses her process of making art. She teaches her students that we are all artists and each artist has a different form of making. However, something that all artists make are mistakes and Amanda emphasizes the importance of resilience.

Cascade Artist Studio

In Cascade Artist Studio from PechaKucha Night Blue Mountain Vol. 9, Artist Jacqueline Spedding introduces the warehouse she and a friend recently transformed into a working studio space in 2012. Cascade Studio in Blue Mountains hosts a range of talented artists- the most recent visiting artist came from South Korea.

Halifax Music Co-op

In Halifax Music Co-op from PechaKucha Night Halifax Vol. 20, John Bogardus shares what the Halifax Music Co-op is. Bogardus is a curious and passionate conductor, and has been playing in and leading ensembles the majority of his life. In 2010, John started the program that would become the Halifax Music Co-op. Since that time, he has devoted his life to nurturing the organization and its membership as both Executive Director and Music Director of the HMC. His passion for music and musical education has grown the Halifax Music Co-op from humble beginnings to an organization of half a dozen ensembles and over 200 members.

Connecting Artists to Amplify Their Voices
