Creativity in a Hidden Land

“We’re advanced in everything but when it comes to design, we’re a bit boring… So when PechaKucha was introduced in 2012, young people were encouraged to come… and show us what they had.”

In Creativity in a Hidden Land from PKN Tokyo’s Vol. 134 Pow Wow Special, PechaKucha Night Muscat Organizer Sara Fida Al Abdullah shares some reflections on her home city and the PKN she hosts there in Oman. A beautiful and vibrant city, Oman's capital Muscat is a sight to behold indeed, but as Sara began to recognize an under-represented and under-valued sense of design, she committed her to finding and spotlight the city's hidden creativity and talent, and if in doing so via PechaKucha Nights, she's had an enormously positive impact on her community. Here she also offers some ingenious tips on running PechaKucha Night, from which any organizer can glean.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Monday, April 4th, 2016.

How Restraint will Fuel Your Creativity

“Maybe eventually in the one route left, you will find new continent of possibility.”

In How Restraint will Fuel Your Creativity from Pechakucha Night Shanghai Vol.27, seemingly contradictionary, Pierrick Calvez makes the case that restraint can actually give you more freedom. He backs this up with relevant examples from various artists. Our conclusion: Think outside of the box, but putting yourself in a(nother) smaller box!
