Rokkferð til Iceland með Vinum

PRESENTED ON FEB 15, 2018
IN PORTSMOUTH NH @ VOL 32

Cliff Lazenby has been a fan of the San Francisco-based rock band, Thee Oh Sees, for years, but was long deprived of hearing them live. So when the band announced they would be headlining a 3 day music festival in Iceland of all wonderful places, Cliff made plans with some fellow music freak friends to embark on an Icelandic adventure.

Calamity strikes one week before scheduled to leave - the festival goes bankrupt! Cliff and his friends decided to go through with their plans, and instead experienced the trip of a lifetime.

I Bet You Look Desperately Uncoordinated On The Dancefloor: an accidental journey into rock stardom

BY KEITH GABRIEL
@ VOL 33 ON OCT 03, 2017

Keith Gabriel brings us I Bet You Look Desperately Uncoordinated On The Dancefloor: an accidental journey into rock stardom.  By day, Keith Gabriel works inefficiently at the University of Warwick. By night, he generally does as little as he can, aside from bemoaning the domestic mundanities of parenthood. So how did this increasingly corpulent man, who’d previously never sang before a live audience, end up as the lead singer of an indie-rock band? And did he wiggle like a Jarvis, pogo like a Damon or just kinda stand there like a Liam?

Livin' in Gomerica: tales from the World's Biggest Band

BY ANDY WALLMAN
@ VOL 24 ON NOV 09, 2017

Were The Gomers the world's biggest band? They made some noise in the late 1980's with a few songs appearing on the national Dr. Demento radio show. Over time, they realized they knew over 2,000 cover songs and a live karaoke band was born. The spent the next 12 years sharing the stage with over ten thousand lead singers who (usually) lived out their rock and roll dreams three blissful rockin' minutes at a time. (That is a big band.) Andy Wallman was the first chair tambourine player for The Gomers and will take you on the inside of what it was like to be Livin' in Gomerica.

Our Band Could Be Your Life

BY LANCE PORTER
@ VOL 8 ON APR 06, 2018

Lance Porter is a music nerd. He has been obsessed with punk rock since 1980, when he saw Devo on late-night TV. (I know Devo isn’t really punk, but I was 10, OK?) His music nerdiness has dictated almost every move in his life, including the cities he chose to live in and the woman he married. However, it took just over 30 years for him to finally get the guts to live out a rock ‘n’ roll fantasy and form his own band.
