Air pollution does not recognize borders. Improving air quality demands sustained and coordinated action at all levels. Dr. Maira Neira speaks about her work at WHO, the upcoming WHO conference on air pollution in Geneva and solutions to improve our air through sustainable transport, more efficient and renewable energy production and use, and waste management.

Sand: rarer than one thinks!

@ VOL 5 ON SEP 20, 2018

Pascal Peduzzi puts an importance on the fact that our societies are litterally built on sand. We use sand for roads, dams, buildings and other infrastructures, land reclamation, beach refurbishment, as well as in agriculture, electronics, glass and even in cosmetics. Sand is the second most used natural resource after water and its use was multiplied by three in the last two decades to reach 40-50 billions metric tons per year. This is enough to build a wall of 27 m high and 27 m wide all around the equator every year. What are the consequences and proposed solutions.

Informed Voter Project

@ VOL 5 ON SEP 20, 2018

The Indian National Elections will be held in February or March 2019. This will be a momentous election for the largest democracy in the world, poised to select the pathways towards a inclusive, equitable development not only for its own peoples but also one that will determine the trajectory of critical global issues such as climate change, sustainable development goals of the UN etc. for the next 5 years. My organization is preparing to establish a Informed Voting Service (providing detailed, objectively analyzed information about candidates) to enhance the 'quality' of the election so that citizens of India vote based on information and look beyond rumors, biased opinions cultivated by mass media, and religious/caste identity.

"It’s never going to work!”

@ VOL 4 ON MAY 31, 2018

That’s the answer I often get when I present my ideas to city councils. I like to inject a little craziness in our day to day lives to bring people together, and challenge the preconception that people in cities are too individualistic and closed off. Because time and time again, I have found that people from all walks of life and cultures are just waiting for opportunities to get together and connect.
