Anxiety Quiet Anxiety

PRESENTED ON OCT 21, 2017
IN EL PASO @ VOL 17

People who have anxiety usually have a hard time explaining what it is to those that never experience it. One way to describe it is it having many of the same qualities as the loud/quiet/loud dynamic of rock n’ roll songs. Leonard Martinez’s presentation looks at the heady topic of anxiety through the lens of music. All you’ll feel is calm - hopefully.

My Year of Unhappy Places

BY COURTENAY HAMIESTER
@ VOL 27 ON OCT 02, 2018

Courtenay Hamiester has been a pessimist her whole life. In her mid-40's, she was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, and she realized that pessimism wasn't her nature, it was pathology. And if anxiety had dug these ruts in her neural pathways that made her think everything was going to suck, was there a way she could dig herself out of them by re-teaching her brain that everything was going to be okay? So then, she decided to start doing things that scared her and then writing about them after realizing that a person can't die from.
