The Problem Solver and the Dreamer

BY ALLISON STOUT
@ VOL 1 ON OCT 28, 2014

Architecture is about people - we often forget this and this speech reemphasizes where I believe the focus should be in our profession.

Architect and dreamer, Allison Stout expresses her desire to build for the ones who cannot afford it. She hopes for a day that all that need a home, can have a home. Used to working for the 1%, she had come to understand that her job is not building for those who can afford it, but to build safe homes and communities. No matter who you are, or how much you make.

Do the tools available with advances in technology change the paradigm of the creative decision making process? And, the chicken or the egg question, Is the canvas painting an original or a copy?

Dumb, Lazy, and Unruly Perfectionist

BY VASCO MOURÃO
@ VOL 132 ON JAN 27, 2016

“If you told me six years ago that I could do this I would never believe you… Because really, I’m lazy as a panda, I'm not very smart, and I have difficulty focusing on one thing at one time. So i had to create a system, a strategy to sit and draw, because I really love to draw. ”

In Dumb, Lazy, and Unruly Perfectionist from PechaKucha Night Tokyo’s 132nd Volume, Speaker Vasco Mourão, an Architect turned illustrator with a tendency for obsessive drawing and detail, explains his creative process. The Barcelona-native explains that by keeping a simple, manageable, distraction free routine, he argues that one does not have to be very smart or productive to produce great works.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Friday, February 19th, 2016.
