BY ROBERT OPPECKER

Altering Skins - Surface to Form

BY ROBERT OPPECKER
@ VOL 4 ON MAR 09, 2013

There are 3 generations of artists in Robert Oppecker's family. His father was a prolific abstract artist in the 40's, 50's and 60's. Robert is a scupltor and silversmith. And his son is studying graphic design at VCU. Robert's own work focuses on form, line, and volume, but because of the silver medium he does not get to do much with color on the surface. To capture this "intergenerational energy", Robert, along with the help of his son, Michael, explore ways to meld the surface treatments with the scupltural expressions.

Amaryllis

BY ROBERT OPPECKER
@ VOL 11 ON MAR 07, 2015

Robert Oppecker thought he was just recording the process of his wife's amaryllis as it grew and bloomed. However, as he looked at the photos he was taking, and noticed the background as well, the series became a visual metaphor for connections to the past, to family, and to what is to become.

The Road Traveled

BY ROBERT OPPECKER
@ VOL 18 ON MAR 10, 2018

What happens when your car can no longer support your commute and you end up walking to work? For Robert Oppecker it slowed him down enough to actually notice the route he was taking. With his trusty iPad in hand the photo collection started growing, along with the experience of walking to work.
