Architect & PechaKucha Night Founder, Klein Dytham architecture in Tokyo Japan

Little did we know that a one-off event in Tokyo, based on a simple format we came up with to stop architects from talking too much, would grow into a truly global celebration of creativity - if we did we may have named the event something a little easier to pronounce and spell!

PechaKucha Inspires Nepal

BY MARK DYTHAM
@ VOL 126 ON JUN 24, 2015

"Anybody who has a story to share about Nepal can make a presentation, record it, send it to us, and we can put it on our PechaKucha Inspire Channel."

At PechaKucha Tokyo's Vol. 126, co-founders Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein re-launched their disaster response initiative, "PechaKucha Inspire", this time for the heavily earthquake-hit Himalayan Kingdom of Nepal.

Building on their experiences with the ongoing PechaKucha Inspire JAPAN effort, where an ever-growing collection of Japan inspiring presentations made at PKN around the world, are being added to, shared, and viewed nearly 100,000 times through the PechaKucha website, PechaKucha Inspire NEPAL will be more nimble, allowing anyone to make a presentation and send it directly to us to upload on the Inspire NEPAL Channel.

PechaKucha's simple and accessible format combined with a tried and tested worldwide network of creativity proves again how we can rally together to truly make a difference in the world. Be inspired by this compelling presentation to share YOUR story and in turn inspire Nepal back to it's beautiful self!

To share your story, send us a mail at inspire@pechakucha.org.

Thank you!

"It just proves what a fantastic network we have."

In PechaKucha Loves Brazil! from Tokyo's Brazilian Lifestyle Powered by PechaKucha, PK's founder Mark Dytham shines a spotlight on all the ways the 20x20 format is celebrated in Brazil. From presentations on Oscar Niemeyer's iconic architecture, to talks on Brazil's exquisite and diverse street art, to one of the counties most enigmatic individuals discussing what it takes (and costs) to become transgender, Mark shares the broad spectrum of PechaKucha in Brazil both as a creative import, and an inspiring export.

Snowflakeology

BY MARK DYTHAM
@ VOL 131 ON DEC 16, 2015

"On the 27th of January, 1887, a snowflake apparently fell in Montana, and it was 57cm (22.4in) across ...but they have no proof of that."

In SnowFlakeology from PechaKucha Night Tokyo Vol. 131, PK co-founder Mark Dytham drops some cold hard science on frozen crystals falling from the sky. Whether elaborating on 2-dimensional radiating dendrites crystals, or 3-dimensional Gohei-twin type flakes, or digital ASCII/Unicode icy forms, it's crystal-clear he's done his homework. Simply put, Mark's extensive snowflake knowledge is...well...chilling.

...he definitely didn't flake on this PechaKucha! It snow joke!

From Tokyo to the World

BY ASTRID KLEIN
@ VOL 55 ON FEB 09, 2016

Astrid Klein & Mark Dytham, PechaKucha Founders, special guests from PechaKucha HQ, Tokyo

Mark and Astrid introduce the concept of PechaKucha  - in ten years this format of seminars has spread to over 900 cities. They have about 120 events every month, and around 500 000 people attend these events.

PechaKucha is about being positive. Mark and Astrid speak about the positive outcome of the horrible earthquake in Tōhoku in 2011, where a million people were dislodged and 7000 people lost their homes. To help restore the community, architect Toyo Ito built a new kind of community center called The Home For All – a place where people can meet each other, a place to hang out and a place for kids to play.
