Lasse was born in Denmark, but grew up in various countries including Sweden, Austria and Germany. At the age of 21, he decided to return to his roots and completed his university education in Copenhagen, Denmark. Having spent 6 months abroad during his Ph.D in Japan, he decided to return for a 2 year Post.Doc.
Research topics and projects conducted during his Bachelor, Masterthesis and Ph.D in Computer Science and Human-Computer Interaction include: Computer Graphics, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision and Augmented Reality.
His latest project deviates slightly by designing and engineering a novel music mixing interface, for the purposes of giving the user more creative freedom in a live environment.

The availability of touch interfaces for DJing has exponentially increased along with the obiquitous influence of smartphones and tablets. But many of these "modern" interfaces stick to applying dated interaction patterns that are unfitting for this new type of interface. In this presentation, Lasse Laursen talks about where he believes the strength of mixing using touch interfaces lie, along with a sneak peak at his own work-in-progress interface.

In this presentation, Lasse Laursen talks about his ideas and perspectives on how to improve the communication between DJ's and VJ's during live performances. This is the second presentation in a series involving a new touch-based audio mixing interface that he is currently designing at the University of Tokyo, with the goal of allowing for more creativity in a live setting. The system is designed to facilitate more communication between DJ's and VJ's, to promote a better party experience.
