Facing Lobster

@ VOL 21 ON NOV 10, 2016

Joanne Arnold. Joanne is a seven-time Pecha Kucha presenter and one of our favorites. A woman of many talents – she’s an artist, photographer, ordained interfaith chaplain, and professional strength trainer – Joanne loves the PK format, and we love to see her work. She describes herself as a ‘Chronic Waterfront Trespasser.’ By that she means that she has taken photos at first light, mostly near the Portland Waterfront, every day, in good weather and bad, for seven consecutive years, and considers it a spiritual practice. The images she captures are remarkable, especially considering the effort it took to overcome the suspicion and resistance of the fishermen and dock workers, who thought she was everything from a private detective to an OSHA spy. Tonight, Joanne celebrates the men and women who make their living from the sea, with a visual and lyrical prose poem of the Portland Waterfront. With the eye of a fine photographer and the craftsmanship of a born writer, Joanne Arnold vividly describes this unique world, which she calls Facing Lobster
