David Kernick

Photographer and teacher in Forster Australia

David is an avid local photographer who enjoyed his childhood growing up in the Forster Tuncurry area. He first began picking up a camera while studying photography at high school, further developing his interest whilst studying primary teaching at university. It was here that he continued his interest working with film and in particular Black and White Photography.

Changes in lifestyle and work commitments haltered this hobby until approximately 10 years ago when he regained the passion, leaving film and delving into the digital world of photography. As a local surf life saver and regular ski paddler he has spent many years on the beautiful local waterways or surfing the beaches. His view of the local area comes from a different perspective to most as he regularly paddles in the late afternoon light and has seen many spectacular sunsets. This passion for water and low light is reflected in much of his work and he enjoys the peacefulness and serenity of shooting landscape photography.

David also loves the social interaction of portrait photography and watching his subjects develop in confidence, capturing their personalities and in particular seeing the smile on their faces when they see the final product.
