Dan Shanahan is Co-Founder and Artistic Director of Torn Space Theater, where he has directed more than thirty works for the stage, including many that were U.S. and area premiers, and has written ten productions. His original work often combines the disciplines of architecture, video and sound design and site-based performance. Concerning his site-based work, a leading performance journal, PAJ, wrote that Shanahan’s “Motion Picture was conceived on a scale most theatre companies can only dream of.” The Buffalo News said that Shanahan’s work “forces viewers to rethink and expand their own ideas of what theater or performance can be." He was awarded “Best Director” by Artvoice for A Street Car Named Desire, The Shipment and for his original work Terminus, which also received “Best Production of WNY” from Buffalo Spree Magazine. He is Assistant Professor at Daemen College in Buffalo, NY with a focus on the performing arts and entrepreneurial management.
