PKN Nagano Organizer Interviewed
It may be in Japanese, but for those who can read it, here's a great interview with Hitoshi Toyoshima, organizer of PechaKucha Night in Nagano. He talks about his relationship with PKN, and what it means for him to be organizer. The latest PKN in Nagano (Vol. 12) was held May 15, and the next one is set to happen August 29.
Poster for PKN Istanbul Vol. 11
PechaKucha Night in Istanbul Vol. 11 is coming up in September, and here's more on the event from organizer Nurten Meriçer:On September 15, 2011, PechaKucha Night Istanbul will take to the stage for the 11th time. The theme of the night, "Who Rules the World? Games and Politics" was chosen because PKN will be collaborating with two headline events in September. The long-awaited IFCA 12 Istanbul Biennial is "untitled" in 2011, but with a broad subtitle. The Istanbul Biennial, as well as formally innovative and politically outspoken, will this time focus on works of art that examine the relationship between art and politics. The main source of inspiration for artistic production of the Biennial is the Cuban-American artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres (1957-1996) and his works. PKN Istanbul Vol. 11 will be one of the opening activities of the Biennial. During the same period, the PKN Istanbul venue, YEM Building Information Center, will be hosting a dazzling exhibition, "Space Invaders: Video Game Art and Environment." PKN Istanbul will invite artists from this exhibition to speak about the production of video and console games. The PKN Istanbul audience is ready to meet and greet gamers ruling the world and rulers playing games on the very same stage on September 15. Stay tuned!
Today's presentation, in Japanese, was recorded at PechaKucha Night in Tokyo Vol. 88, and sees the group PEA talk about how to design the relationship between neighbors.
Why I Run
Even though he's had a lifelong passion for it, running hasn't always come easy for Steven Kaplan. In "Why I Run," he shows us how his relationship with the sport has evolved over the years, and shares the heights he eventually was able to achieve. The presentation was recorded at PechaKucha Night in Hyderabad Vol. 6, and is in English.
The Other Woman
Steph Pollard's presentation, "The Other Woman," is about the special relationship and connection that her family shares with artist Clare White. We also get to see Clare's works throughout. It was recorded at PechaKucha Night in Barnsley Vol. 4.
Recap: Kolding Vol. 20
The Danish city of Kolding celebrated their momentous Vol. 20 just this past March 7. Presenters discussed delectable and intriguing topics such as cheese, the relationship between art and death, and why humans have body hair. As you may or may not be aware, the number 20 holds a special place in our hearts here at PechaKucha, and our founders (Mark Dytham and Astrid Klein) send out a greeting video when each city reaches their Vol. 20. PKN Kolding sent us a video reply, which can be found here. To see some great photos from PKN Kolding Vol. 20, check out their event page.
Ashland, Oregon just hosted their Vol. 4 evening with a very fluid theme: Water. The event featured presenters discussing their work and experience involving good ol' H2O. Ashland's local Rogue Riverkeeper newsletter did a short preview of the festivities and included a list of PKN Ashland presenters and their topics -- here's a few of them: Pete Wallstrom - River guide, river advocate, and owner of Momentum River Expeditions presents adventures in river running and river advocacy. Malena Marvin - ecological designer and PechaKucha Night organizer, suggests diverting your greywater can transform and invigorate your household's relationship with water. For the full write-up, head over to Rogue Riverkeeper's post.
PKN Vol. 5
We're coming up on our Volume 5, at Gloucester Arts on Main, Saturday, June 15th. Social at 6pm, presentations at 7pm. I've only been given some clues, but this evening looks like it's promising to be very upbeat and inspiring. We're going to hear about Stephanie's personal psychologies and theories on happiness, Lulu has been collecting words for a crowdsourced poem, and Reese will be talking about "I pledge allegiance..." Something interesting must be in those 3 dots. We're also going to have our first couples presentation. Grace and Matt will be sharing the meaning and inspiration of art in their relationship. Things may get mushy. So mark the date off in your calendar, come check out a great gallery, have a drink and a snack, get inspired, and join in a little chit-chat, PechaKucha style.

VJ DJ Communication
VJs and DJs don't talk. Or at least, they don't communicate nearly enough. Lasse Laursen works hard for the money as a VJ/DJ relationship counselor -- well, kind of -- he develops audio interfaces for VJs and DJs in hopes to dramatically increase merriment levels for the crowd. In today's Presentation of the Day, "VJ DJ Communication" from PKN Tokyo Vol. 105, Lasse reviews his previous presentation on touch interfaces, and highlights his amazing research meant to benefit future partygoers the world over.
