Global PechaKucha Day for Haiti, One Year On

What a difference a year makes. Global PechaKucha Day for Haiti raised over $80,000 on the 20th February 2010 for Architecture for Humanity. Our aim was to raise enough money to rebuild one of the devastated schools in Haiti, so today, one year on we are very proud to say that dream is becoming a reality. Thanks to all the amazing efforts of Cameron Sinclair and Architecture for Humanity they have begun to rebuild schools in Haiti, one of which is directly funded by Global PechaKucha Day. To mark the occasion, and let you see progress Cameron has put together an update, in a 20x20 presentation, where you can see the design for the Ecole La Dignite, the school you have funded, taking shape. After you have watched the presentation you will understand that the money we raised has been put to use very effectively. If you can we encourage you all to continue to support the long haul AFH mission mission in Haiti, you can find the pages here.

PechaKucha Global Events

@ VOL 90 ON MAR 28, 2012

PechaKucha co-founder Mark Dytham gives a presentation about all of the global events that have helped bring the PK network together three times now, first for Haiti, then for Japan, and recently to celebrate each PK city. This presentation is in English.

PKN Bali for Haiti

The "PechaKucha Global Night for Haiti" will be a true community event, bringing together as many of the PKN cities as possible on one day (February 20). The organizers of PKN Bali were among the first to pledge their support, and here's a look at the poster they've put together for the event. Note that the venue is still to be announced.

PKN Gothenburg + Haiti

Gothenburg will be supporting the Haiti efforts in a number of ways. Although a proper event will not be held on the 20th, they will be participating in the PechaKucha Wave with a special presentation: "20 things you can do to help Haiti." Then, on the 23rd, PKN Gothenburg Vol. 18 will include special presentations on how to help in Haiti, and include a fundraiser as well. Make sure to visit this page for more details on everything.

PKN Aalen + Haiti

Aalen's "PechaKucha for Haiti" special event will be taking place February 22 at Hochschule Aalen, and here's a look at the lovely poster that was put together for the evening. As we've mentioned before, even if cities are holding events on days other than the 20th, we urge everyone to attend and contribute donations to the reconstruction efforts.

PKN Washington + Haiti

Washington is one of the many PechaKucha cities that will be joining in on the "PechaKucha for Haiti" reconstruction efforts, and here's a look at the poster created for the event, the first example of a city using the Studio Number One-designed logo. The event will take place at the Embassy of Austria on February 19, from 19:30, and it has been confirmed that one of the speakers will be the wife of the Ambassador of Haiti, Lola Poisson-Joseph -- the Ambassador will be out of town on the evening of the event, and so could not participate himself.

PKN Nagoya + Haiti

Nagoya will be hosting an event during the "Global PechaKucha Night for Haiti," to be held at the Like Air + Water venue, from 18:00. See the poster above for more details.

PKN Johannesburg + Haiti

httpvh:// Johannesburg will be joining in on the "Global PechaKucha Night for Haiti" on the 20th, with an event happening at Atlas Studios (Milpark, Studio 3, top gate), from 20:00. Here's also a look at a terrific teaser video put together by the organizers.

PKN Detroit + Haiti

Detroit's "Global PechaKucha Night for Haiti" event on the 20th will take place at the Marlene Boll Theatre, kicking off at a very PechaKucha time of 20:20.

PKN Madrid for Haiti

Continuing with our series of event reviews from this past Saturday's "PechaKucha for Haiti" events, here's a look at the very cool venue that hosted Madrid's PKN, which was also the city's Vol. 8. We've selected a few photos to share, but there's a lot more to see in this Flickr photoset.

I Still Love Haiti

We just wanted to share another postcard spotted for PKN Bogota's postcard project to raise funds for Haiti -- read more about the project and how you can order a set in our previous post. The illustration is by Lorena Alvarez.

PKN Haiti Event on Ustream

We've already posted details about tonight's (May 8) special PechaKucha Night for Haiti "thank you" event with Cameron Sinclair, but let us also add that the whole thing will be broadcast live over Ustream. It all happens here, and we'll go live from 19:45 Tokyo Time.
