When Roman Milo received an email post-card in his inbox back in the late 1990s he was delighted to open the image. Little did he know that this email would not only destroy his studio's computers, but also change his art style over the course of the next 10 years. In this edition of Presentation of the Day (from PKN Toronto Vol. 12) Roman tells us that this little digital letter was actually a computer virus written by a KGB hacker group based out of Romania. He speaks of his following near-obsession with deciphering and examining the Base64 character set with which the trojan horse was written. As a result, he began to paint and construct art based on these digital runes.
Dale Van Dusen is a bicycle addict. His obsession began with his need to use a bike to get to and from work. From that point it ballooned into long-distance rides for charity, to a ride across the continental United States. In this edition of Presentation of the Day (from PKN Bangkok Vol. 6), Dale tells of his experience first coming across a bicycle frame made of bamboo, and his subsequent desire to build one for himself. He discusses the benefits (lighter frame, less road vibration), and challenges involved in constructing his first bike, as well as his future plans to fabricate these unique two-wheeled transports on a greater scale.
