Tokyo Totem - A Subjective Guide

BY EDWIN GARDNER
@ VOL 126 ON JUN 24, 2015

"This entire environment that is [Tokyo] is completely made by man, so we're effectively living in the collective imagination of mankind."

At PechaKucha Tokyo Vol. 126, Dutch explorer Edwin Gardner introduces a new type of city guide called "Tokyo Totem" which attempts to look at Tokyo in a more experiential sense. Compiling a purely objective guide of the largest city in the world is simply exercise in futility, hence Gardner's fresh angle. The book is coming together with a long list of collaborators over many visits to Tokyo. Tokyo Totem will be released later this year, so be on the lookout for it and we will keep you updated!

Body Language

BY GAETAN SCHMID
@ VOL 12 ON JAN 27, 2016

“You might see this when you don't know when to shut up. He wants to cover your mouth with his hand to get you to shut up, but that’s socially not correct so he projects his intentions over his own face.”

In Body Language from PechaKucha Night Johannesburg’s 12th volume, speaker Gaetan Schmid presents on the not quite secret language of the human body.  We create impressions in others minds of how we sit, stand and walk, he provides the guidebook to them. A very comical and informative presentation from what he has learnt in Theatre.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Tuesday, March 2nd, 2016.

Tokyo by Tokyo

Tokyo by Tokyo is a new guidebook produced by Tokyo's best -- and some would say only -- boutique hotel, Claska. The bilingual pocket-size tome features over 200 recommended spots in Tokyo, selected by 70 creators -- what better way to get the inside line on the places you really should be checking out on a visit (or during an extended stay). Even better, the book links up with Google Maps -- exact coordinates are found inside the guide. It can be purchased online from Claska, but is also found in bookstores around the city. Below, a few images shown during a presentation on the book at PechaKucha Night in Tokyo Vol. 59.
