In Leave My Heart in Vancouver from PechaKucha Night Vancouver Vol. 28, After an experimental phase in her youth, Shawna Olsten longed for a marketing spot in the action sports industry. She only had one, tiny stipulation: she had to do so in the city of Vancouver. Here Shawna speaks of her trials, triumphs, but mostly her gratitude to the city that raised her.

Megan Cooke, director of Garden to Table Permaculture has a combined 20 years experience in horticulture, permaculture and outdoor education. For the past seven years Megan has managed Forster Community Garden, working with indigenous and local community volunteers to produce healthy chemical free food. Megan is passionate about teaching people the joys of growing and cooking their own organic food and sharing the knowledge she has learnt from her sustainable living journey.

Gerard Koeppel writes history, mostly New York related, but also in anything from magazines and journals to historical signage in city parks. He was also a captain of a charter sailboat, an awful law student, a licensed hack (out of a Greenwich Village taxi garage), and then, for many years, a radio reporter/writer/editor/producer, mostly with CBS News.

Mowatt has been been working on Vir2oso for a year since feeling great frustration from the UK's uncompromising education system which did not provide ample space for creativity and exploration of self.

In Educating with Food in the Hudson Valley at PechaKucha Night New York Vol.16, Lauren Maples walks us through the importance and strength of a sustainable, natural, and health-conscious education. While teaching yoga and dance in public schools, she developed the Bija approach - which strives to create a fulfilling and engaging educational experience.
Lauren has danced with internationally acclaimed ballet companies including San Francisco Ballet and New York City Ballet, and holds a BA from New School.

Her firm, Terreform ONE, built a sustainable insect shelter on site to conduct extensive research on crickets - studying their growth, social development, and reproductive habits...before harvesting the adults and turning them into tasty treats!
Maria is an architect, educator, designer, and community builder in New York City. She is an innovator in ecological design, smart cities, sustainable urban infrastructure, water, transportation, and waste. Maria is a leader in interdisciplinary education focused on future cities.

Anne Gross and Guerrilla Gardening
At PechaKucha Night in Tokyo Vol. 63, Anne Gross gave a presentation on what she called "Guerrilla Gardening," a Landscape Architecture project she worked on at the Brandenburg University of Technology in Cottbus, Germany. 40 students recovered 10 city sites of wasteland and turned them into gardens -- Guerrilla Gardening. We all together organized every single step, from designing to financial support and realization, up to a great opening event that included a symposium. Below, a few images from Anne's presentation.

Growing a Community of Impact
"Maybe it's a natural virus for someone who has social workers as parents, but for me I thought I had to help everyone in trouble." In Growing a Community of Impact from Bergen Vol. 3, Silje Grastveit tells her story of what inspired her to become an entrepreneur. She started Impact Hub in Bergen, Norway, working to support social entrepreneurs. In just a few years the organization's network has spread to over 60 cities, and continues to grow. The community has reached more than 10,000 members focussing on making a positive impact in the world. Impact Hub Bergen was one of the early versions, it opened in 2011 and is the first incubator for social innovation in Norway.

Originally from Louisville, Kentucky, (that's pronounced "Loo-ih-vil", without the "S"!) Alex is currently working in the advanced engineering where he hopes to make the world's connection just a little bit stronger.
