Just 4 weeks after the events of 3/11 in Japan, the worldwide PechaKucha community came together to "Inspire Japan." Over $85,000 was raised for Architecture for Humanity and ArchiAid during a non-stop 24-hour PechaKucha event that circled the globe. The process of re-growth is ongoing, and presentations will continue to be added as we continue to inspire.
PechaKucha Nights at Tokyo Design Week are where audiences can catch presentations by some of the brightest and most interesting design talent in Japan (with a few welcome guests from abroad). Each year's event fills up the TDW venue where it is held, with upwards of 700 to 1000 in attendance.
Our 2012 global event had the goal of celebrating every PechaKucha Night city, worldwide. It was a weeklong celebration (February 20-26) that brought all PechaKucha organizers, presenters, and attendees together, with a focus on highlighting all of the amazing cities that make up the global PechaKucha community.
"Powered by PechaKucha" events are one-off events that are separate from regular city-based PechaKucha Nights, and that are usually held as part of festivals and conferences, but can also act as standalone events. These events include presentations that use the PechaKucha 20 images x 20 seconds format.
Table XI is a custom software development firm based in Chicago, and is the web development team behind the newly launched pechakucha.org website. "Table Talks" is a recurring series of PechaKucha-style lightning talks held over lunch at our office. The event is designed to foster idea exchange, collaboration and learning, and features a lineup of top-notch entrepreneurs, technologists, designers and storytellers from Chicago and beyond.
BitSummit is a new conference in Western Japan for indie developers to showcase ideas and meet with publishers. For this year's BitSummit MMXIV (March 7-9) the festival has expanded in size, length, and quality, with three days worth of guest speakers and musical guests, combined together in an event unlike anything ever seen.

So what's the Global Hangout? On the night of the PechaKucha Global Night -- that would be Friday, September 20 -- events will be starting in New Zealand, and then for the next 20 hours or so we'll be going around the world, with new events starting in their local time zones. The point of the Global Hangout is that we are using Google+ Hangouts on Air to connect with all of these events, as they are starting (for the most part), to have a video chat with our local PechaKucha Night organizers, to find out what's happening at their event -- and some organizers who weren't able to have an event on that night will be joining in too. So for a period of close to 20 hours, starting at 19:00 JST, you'll be able to watch a live stream of the Global Hangout -- you'll be able to do so from our Google+ page, or our YouTube page. And please note, a Google+ account is not required to watch the Global Hangout stream. So if you want to feel the pulse of what is happening during the PechaKucha Global Night on September 20, tune in to the Global Hangout, and follow the PechaKucha wave around the world!
Global Night in Bordeaux
Bordeaux is also taking part in the PechaKucha Global Night on September 20, proudly listing itself with other participating cities on its flyer. For more info on the city's Vol. 9, visit the official event page.
