People of Two Spirits

Houston Cypress, of the Miccosukee Native American tribe, speaks of the "two-spirit" phenomena within Native American culture. He approaches the subject stating that this idea is not so much a sexual orientation but a gender analysis. Houston gives us great examples of transgender aboriginal peoples serving all sorts of roles within their communities, and discusses his personal experiences coming out.

Hope Scarves

Lara MacGregor was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 30. Inspired by Lara's scarf-sharing experience with friends, Hope Scarves is a way for women to share their cancer stories and pass on hope and happiness to others. Hope Scarves has grown to become an uplifting resource to cancer patients, survivors, and friends and family facing cancer.

Books for Syria

The crisis in Syria has been ongoing for about three years, leaving defenseless victims most affected. Children are unable to go to school as well as enduring major psychological trauma and a loss of any sense of possession. Shada El Sayed introduces a program that addresses these issues by giving them books. A network of illustrators and authors, Books for Syria creates books for children to reinstill hope back into their lives.

Ancient Hand Axe

In Ancient Hand Axe from PechaKucha Night Coventry Vol. 25, Dom Russell reveals that, "as a historian, I spend a lot of time drinking tea" which led him to the realisation that his treasured Stone Age hand axe was made for a left-handed hunter. This realisation - and the subsequent human connection this made him feel with its creator - is what makes his hand axe one of his favourite things!
