Becky Dochstader and Scott McWalter are the Communications Team for the Northern Sport Centre and are proud to be participating in PG’s first ever PechaKucha event. “The Power to Move You” theme is a natural fit for the Northern Sport Centre, and Becky and Scott explain how the NSC is not only a provider of movement, but a recipient as well. The NSC is a world-class sport and fitness facility that provides Northern BC with the power to move, but in reality, it’s the members, user groups and staff who move us.

Ramzy Farouki reflects on the theme of 'Creative Inspiration' gathering insight and interpretation from reflections on work, life and personal experiences. 

Yvette Benavides recalls the fire that threatened to claim Our Lady of the Lake University’s very existence, how the community rallied to rebuild, and how literary trailblazer Sandra Cisneros offered to be its writer-in-residence at no fee. From there, the author and college professor takes us through her own literary coming of age, how her multicultural and bilingual upbringing shaped her art, and how she sets out to reach the diverse future scholars in her classroom. In "Education As An Inspiration" from PechaKucha Night York Vol. 11, Marco Polledri and his daughter regularly get fired up about education! Marco because he couldn't wait to get away from it, and for Celestine because she's right in the middle of it. Both of them have come to realise that education doesn't need to be painful, it can be inspirational but it must be engaging. They discuss realising that education can be something that you share as a family, from the highs to the lows. They believe it's something we all need to be involved in, and share their thoughts on how to do it.

Pepe Villegas draws inspiration from his life circumstances in New York and Miami.  Living life on life's terms, he takes the good with the bad to create drawings, paintings, and an art object series based on the fundamentals of his architecture education.  He did some modeling along the way too!

Inspiration is a phrase banded around a lot today. From Instagram feeds filled with muscle-bound humans to quotes posted by great aunt Edna who is responding to a status which her friend Mavis asked her to share. But what happens when you are supposed to inspire others using your own thoughts and you have never really faced any real adversary? What does inspiration even mean to this slightly balding 25-year-old male, and why should it inspire you? Joe Glover explains.
