The Importance of Drawing [on Your Child’s School Lunch Bag]

BY PETER EXLEY
@ VOL 1 ON OCT 01, 2015

“Research has illustrated that 90% of us will do almost all of the drawings we will make in our lifetime before the age of 10. That’s the threshold we pass when someone tells us that we aren't good at art or math or science.”

In The Importance of Drawing [on Your Child’s School Lunch Bag] from PechaKucha Night Batavia’s first volume, Speaker Peter Exley discusses the importance of thoughtful and deliberate sketches. We all spent time in our youth expressing ourselves through drawing. At some point, many of us turned our attentions to things less creative. Peter did not. Here’s why.

Art of Warning: Making of the Flood Drawings

BY MARY CIANI
@ VOL 8 ON SEP 13, 2016

"A few springs ago, I looked out over San Francisco Bay and I saw the city rising in the distance, above the fog, and I thought - I am going to draw water!"

In "Art of Warning: Making of the Flood Drawings" from PechaKucha Night Bryan Vol. 8, artist Mary Ciani presented “Flood”, her recent series – from drawings of living in harmony with first rivers to urgent ones warning of storm and final deluge. She looks, too, at visionary artists with images of the past, future, inventive assemblage, and spiritual connection. Even a prayer to the earth is included here. The drawings were collected into a book and art show.
