Improv Madness: Rice Krispies

PRESENTED ON APR 14, 2016
IN MADISON, WI @ VOL 17

Improv Madness: Comedians from 2 local Improv Troops made 20x20 presentations for each other. The audience suggested the topic, in this case, "Rice Krispies." Hilarity ensued.

Dan Deming-Henes, as a professional designer, he has the requisite beard and attitude. Besides being able to trim facial hair, he has also had experience trimming trees as an Arborist. Realizing the glamorous lifestyle that goes along with shrubbery care was not for him, he struck out on his own, making art and telling jokes. He became the house manager for Atlas Improv Company in 2005, which he discovered required a surprising amount of diaper changing. Undeterred, he started taking classes and eventually joined the company as a performer in 2012. He now has people to take care of the diaper changing for him.

@ VOL 17 ON APR 14, 2016

Improv Madness: Comedians from 2 local Improv Troops made 20x20 presentations for each other. The audience suggested the topic, in this case "Males." Hilarity ensued.

Brad Knight. It took a stint in Rikers to set Brad on the path of redemption and comedy. His first performance on the outside was a comedy fundraiser for the families of victims of the Cinnamon Toast Crunch fire of ’73, which, incidentally, was the reason for his incarceration. It didn’t go over well. Undiscouraged, he joined Monkey Business Institute in 2004. Since then he’s been performing and teaching improv. He says that teaching guys on the inside to find their inner clown is one of the many ways he gives back; it’s also how he gets black eyes.

Improv Madness: The Day I Followed My Boss Home

BY VANESSA TORTOLANO
@ VOL 17 ON APR 14, 2016

Improv Madness: Comedians from 2 local Improv Troops made 20x20 presentations for each other. The audience suggested the topic, in this case, "The Day I Followed My Boss Home." Hilarity ensued.

Vanessa Tortolano is the co-owner and founder of NessAlla Kombucha. When she’s not trying to take over the world with her home grown bacteria-yeast hybrids she affectionately refers to as her “booch” army, Vanessa is probably thinking about how to take over the world with her home grown bacteria-yeast hybrids affectionately referred to as her “booch” army. She joined Monkey Business Institute in 2010 as a means to find the perfect comedy WMD to arm her booch troops. She’ll readily admit that her world takeover plan needs a little more time to ferment. Aside from that she also sings and plays instruments. Drink kombucha.

Improv Madness: Looking into the Future of a Donald Trump Presidency

BY JESS SCHUKNECHT
@ VOL 17 ON APR 14, 2016

Improv Madness: Comedians from 2 local Improv Troops made 20x20 presentations for each other. The audience suggested the topic, in this case, "Looking into the Future of a Donald Trump Presidency." Hilarity ensued.

Jess Schuknecht began studying and performing improv in 1997. Soon after, his face did ‘get stuck that way’ just as his mother had always warned him it would. Using what some may call a disability to his advantage  he found making people laugh and teaching people improv was right up his alley, very literally. He did live and teach in an alley-way for several years. Fortunately by 2004 he became a founding member of Atlas Improv Company and lives in a house now, though he does visit the alley on occasion to stay in touch with his roots.

Kristina Martinez, a native of Holland, had a hard time adapting to the cultural differences here Wisconsin. Holland, Michigan is quite literally another state; she likes to call it “the real mitten state.” (That’s okay, we all know better) A mild-mannered law librarian during the day, she turns into the Atlas Improve Company Manager at night---though sometimes it happens around 2:30 pm in the afternoon, so be careful around her.

Casem Abulughod’s family will tell you he’s been performing comedy since birth. He was born laughing and his first words were, “Yo mama so ugly…” In an effort to please his family Casem when to college and grew a beard. They were happy. He’s also got a masters degree in something probably important, but seriously, he trying to concentrate on his comedic career now, geez mom… Casem joined Monkey Business Institute in 2011 and hasn’t stopped smiling since. It’s been a real problem; in fact, his brother-in-law’s family is no longer speaking to him after their great uncle’s funeral last year.

Improv Madness: What I Learned from My Time Travels

BY EDMOND RAMLY
@ VOL 17 ON APR 14, 2016

Improv Madness: Comedians from 2 local Improv Troops made 20x20 presentations for each other. The audience suggested the topic, in this case, "What I Learned from My Time Travels." Hilarity ensued.

Edmond Ramly born in Beirut, he grew up hearing fantastical stories of a place where the streets were paved with cheese. He decided early on to leave behind the Mediterranean climate of year-round comfortable mild weather and feta scented breezes to travel to the harsh and godforsaken land of Wisconsin where cheddar was the only currency. It was here he realized that tragedy + cheese = comedy at which point he joined Atlas Improve Company by winning the gladiator-style laugh-to-the-death called “The Cut” in 2013. Edmond is still working to improve his usage and pronunciation of common Wisconsin flavored idioms “Youbettcha,” “Oh den dare now” and “Whachagonna do?”
