Sheena Crookes has been working in the skateboarding industry for nearly a decade, and is constantly inspired by the stories that come with the broken skateboards she gathers to produce her works of jewelry. In "Tidal Roots" from PechaKucha Night Portsmouth Vol. 20, Kyle Schaefer and Kent Scovill have combined their skill sets and life experiences to design and build wooden stand-up paddleboards, that the boys claim each have a soul and unique personality. Matt is an acoustic and audiovisual consultant in Arup’s New York office and is involved in a wide variety of projects, from performing arts facilities to corporate fit-out. Matt studied mechanical engineering at Northwestern University and has a background in live sound and broadcast.
Family Boatbuilding, Getting Kids on the Water with Their Own Hands
Tom Hurst has been a woodworking and natural resources teacher for a good long while. He has built and guided the creation of many items of furniture, art pieces, toys, buildings and of course boats. He has built sailboats, canoes and sea kayaks with audiences from children to seniors both locally and around the US. Over 100 canoes and kayaks grace our local waters that were built in his shops. Family boatbuilding is still his favorite. It is a project to draw together people and get them on the water. A natural teacher with a love of sharing the outdoors and practical skills, He has a passion for hands-on experiential education.
