PechaKucha Presentation

Forger

PRESENTED ON SEP 25, 2012
IN LYON @ VOL 4

His name might ring a bell but you don’t know him. Enrique de la Vega works on portraits and the theme of celebrities who put themselves into the spotlight. At the same time, he has decided to stay in the dark for obscure reasons -- and this is not the first paradox that caracterizes this artist. (in French)

Wandering Acoustician

BY JULIEN COOPER
@ VOL 4 ON SEP 25, 2012

One of the organisers of PechaKucha Lyon met Julien Cooper somewhere under a hut in Mali, where he was working on mobile recording studios for her final degree, and he was taking cora lessons. They talked about sound, music...and realized that they lived in the same French town, 500m away from each other. And then they met again at a PechaKucha event, and he asked if he could present. Julien had done much since then, and is now presenting the result and story of this «in between» time.

119 Portraits

BY MIHO OTA
@ VOL 133 ON FEB 24, 2016

“My birthday in 2014, i started asking all my friends to draw me. I set three simple rules: 1) don’t look at others until you’re done with yours 2) draw me on the spot 3) you can not use erasers”

In 119 Portraits from PechaKucha Night Tokyo’s 133rd Volume, Speaker, freelance writer, and sake lover Miho Ota detailed a project from which she had learned a great deal. On her birthday in 2014, Miho had decided to start a portraiture project, asking her artist friends to draw her portrait in a small sketchbook. The rule was simple: draw her on the spot, no erasers, and no looking of others until you finish yours. By her following birthday, Miho had a collection of 119 amazing portraits with countless stories attached to them.

Why Portraits Matter

BY DAVID PARISH
@ VOL 15 ON FEB 17, 2017

"We should capture who we are at this moment."

In Why Portraits Matter from PechaKucha Night El Paso Vol. 15, David Parish shares his decision to create portraits in a world of selfies and why portraits matter.  Utilizing his background in psychology to connect with his subjects, David brings new life to the art of the portrait.  His studio portraiture takes on a painterly quality while revealing the humanity of his subjects through a classical eye.

This was "Presentation of the Day" on June 29th, 2017.
