In "Empowering Women", from PechaKucha Night Brighton Vol.23, Nina Emett is the founder of UK based arts educational organisation called "FotoDocument". She is passionate about the power of narrative photography to make a difference. Her mission statement: to bring "Active global citizenship".Sharing one of her photo essay, Nina explains how she strives to empower women in India.

Emily Charette, designer, entreprenuer, wife and mother of two, shares three generations of birthing stories, and in the process suggests that maybe women aren't telling themselves an accurate story about childbirth at all. In fact, she asserts that women are stronger than they even know.

Undergarment History and Women Empowerment

Inherited passion and talent from her fashion designer mother, Flora Harto inspired to embrace fashion industry, particulary in the field of "intimate apparel". Flo believes that the confidence of a woman starts from within (in this case, including undergarment). After finishing college in New York and worked for Victoria's Secret in 2005, Flo decided to return to his homeland to manage the family company, as well as campaigning for women's rights and empowerment. Now, intimate apparel such as corsets is no longer the symbol of oppression, but can be used as self confidence and/or anti gender based violence campaign.

Latinas: Beyond the labels

Selenia Rodriguez Vargas is a Costa Rican community development professional with a major in Business and English Elementary, focused on empowering women through entrepreneurship skills. My journey to Grand Rapids started in August 2015 as an International Fellow at Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW) via Community Solutions Program. What brought me here was my desire to learn how to enhance women´s capacity to be competitive, achieve entrepreneurial success, and contribute to my country.

At the end of Selenia's stay in Grand Rapids, she put together a last minute presentation to help us understand the realities of Latinas.
