I'd Rather Be Printing

BY J.S. MAKKOS
@ VOL 17 ON MAY 13, 2015

"This is the first color newspaper ever printed in New Orleans!"

In I'd Rather Be Printing from Pechakucha Night New Orleans Vol. 17, J.S. Makkos shares falling in love with antique printing presses as a youth exploring in his father’s antique shop. This helped define his passion for print making. He came down to New Orleans with a purpose to salvage the detritus and material culture of this city that was being lost in dumpsters and through a sequence of events, stumbled on a treasure trove of New Orleans history.

This was "Presentation of the Day" on Monday, October 5th, 2015.

@ VOL 27 ON JUN 10, 2016

“How can I get [students] away from the computer, pull them out of the screen, and how can I get them to think with their hands and to approach things outside of a pixel?”

In Plastic Printing from PechaKucha Night Honolulu Vol. 27, Rob McConnell shares the technique of printing typography and designs using LEGO pieces. As a Graphic Design Professor at Brigham Young University Hawaii, he is interested in exploring all the possible learning experiences that this technique allows. This presentation covers how he came upon the idea and some of the plastic printing work that we have produced in the past year.
