Can the design of shop furniture, products, packaging, retail space large and small, display areas, security procedures, retail management and the myriad of other factors in this environment – even the experience of shopping itself – reduce shoplifting and improve ambiance without turning a small newsagent or a large department store into Alcatraz?

Creativity and Animal Studies

BY CONSTANCE WOODMAN
@ VOL 4 ON SEP 29, 2015

Constance Woodman believes animal experimentation and field studies can be awful or awesome depending on how creatively one approaches a problem. Creativity leads to humane alternatives and breaks through outdated ideas about how to work with animals. Here we look at how using creative applications of technology at the Schubot Exotic Bird Health Center allows animals to voluntarily participate and even make decisions about their own care, reduces the need for harming animals or using animal based products, and allows data to be gathered from wild animals without them ever knowing.
