Pandemonium: The Playful Revolution of Flash Mob Dance

BY JENNA TICO
@ VOL 13 ON FEB 25, 2015

Jenna Tico is a storyteller. Born and raised in Santa Barbara, she made her debut on the Summer Solstice stage in 1993: and in addition to twenty years of collaboration with Solstice—most recently, writing the text for Art Fisher’s parade retrospective—has taught and performed with AXIS Dance Company, Hip Brazil, Panzumo, Fishbon Arts Collaborative, La Boheme, UCSB, Lucidity Festival, and many others. Jenna is a founding member of World Dance for Humanity, the launching pad for countless “Thriller” flash mobs and more than $100,000 of charitable donations at home and abroad. Before graduating from Scripps College in 2012, Jenna was introduced to Contact Improvisation under the watchful eye of Jessica Harris; and in the years since, has danced her way from Bali to Rwanda, inspired by the mind-body connection and the powerful healing it incurs. When she’s not teaching dance at Divinitree Yoga or performing in strange public spaces, Jenna can be found writing grants for the arts, and occasionally frightening the students of Santa Barbara High School by teaching their theatre class.
