On Monday, April 10, Tumo Center for Creative Technologies sets the stage for PechaKucha Yerevan Vol. 23, organized in partnership with the EU-Eastern Partnership Culture and Creativity Programme and Kolba Lab. Local and international architects, urban planners and entrepreneurs will come together under the topic “The Space Case” and the trademarked 20 slides x 20 seconds format. 

We will explore the concepts of space vs place, public vs private, challenges of housing, what big data means for architects, transformation of soviet modernism in Sevan, disobedient dream of Fabrika Tbilisi, urban psychology of post-war Beirut, and design of independent cultural centers in Europe. Most presentations will be in English.

Freedom and Responsibility

How to mix the punk with responsibility in architecture? How to keep the towns and their communities vibrant? What is the role of the cultural organizations in 21st Century? Presentation discusses the revival of the cultural centre Stanica Žilina-Záriečie. The centre has occupied the old station building of the still operational Zilina-Zariecie train station since 2003, combining the roles of independent venue, artistic laboratory and activists’ collective. For the last 6 years, with the friends, Robert Blasko has also been renovating Nová synagóga Žilina, a modern-architecture masterpiece by Peter Behrens.
