We are super excited to announce the return of PechaKucha Night Vientiane on Thursday, June 2 from 6pm at O'Grady's Irish Pub on Rue Phonpapao (we'll be inside to avoid rain and enjoy airconditioning).
 
Entry is 20,000 kip at the door, and O'Grady's will have drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) available for purchase, along with some complimentary finger food. Dinner will be available to purchase.
 
Join us for a fun and informal evening as we listen to ideas, stories, journeys and much more, as told by 11 of our city's creative, innovative and talented residents in the PechaKucha 20x20 format - showing 20 images, each for 20 seconds.

Site, Space, Matter: Experiments in Laos

"Toune" Phayouph is an architect trained in Switzerland who combines Lao and international traditions in architecture. Toun will present some of his architectural work in Laos, some already built, some not yet built, and some in the course of production.

Ounla Pha Oudom, or ‘Kaka,’ is a 27-year old dancer, street wear entrepreneur and director of Fanglao Dance Company. Fanglao, meaning ‘Listening Laos’, was founded in 2013 with the aim to develop original artistic and choreographic practices in Laos. Today Kaka will share his personal journey as a dancer, where he started from, what expectations people had of him and what it means to be a dancer today.

The Magic House

In The Magic House from PechaKucha Night Vientiane Vol. 3, Mair Hyman talks about the process of designing and building a dream house for him and his artist wife in Vientiane, Laos in the neighborhood of Ban Apinihan. The result is a stunning house that combines both Lao and Western elements.

The Humble Yam of Burma

Bill Pennington's presentation is about the Elephant Foot Yam and the people who grow it. The yam connects the people of Chin State and Kayah State of Burma to the wider world. Bill first visited the region in 2007 and has found that the people there share both his sense of humour and his obsession with football.
