BY NURLIYANA FATIN ARIFIN

Fatin Arfin talks about how she took the step to become self-employed and helped businesses to grow. However, before she could rocket to success, the road was bumpy and the obstacles were many to the point where she almost felt like giving up her status of self-employment to the comfort of a steady paying job. Fatin, though, kept on going, never letting pressure get to her.

Fatin told truths about the state of the economy in Brunei and encouraged the audience to pursue their interests and hobbies and to make them into something more.

32 Months

BY FINAH YUSOF
@ VOL 6 ON DEC 19, 2015

“Hitchhiking is defined as travel by getting free lifts in passing vehicles. most people… would describe it as one way of getting yourself killed. I define it as the eye opening experience of seeing kindness in strangers.”

In 32 Months from PechaKucha Bandar Seri Begawan’s 6th Volume speaker Finah Yusof, founder of Gypsy Borneo, shares an amazing journey. A two month holiday to drink coffee and meet new friends ended up instead as an explosion of adventures and incredible encounters of human kindness in the span of thirty-two. Full of curiosity and the need to seek, her decision to continue traveling (or, really, hitchhiking) brought her experiences she never thought she would ever see and feel. She learned many things from how people are to how to survive to how to be what we all are… human.

Finah urged people to have trust and to drop their fears. To say "Yes" instead of hesitating. To be alive.

This was "PechaKucha of the Day" on Monday, February 29th, 2016.

How To Art

BY HILMAN OMAR
@ VOL 6 ON DEC 19, 2015

Hilman Omar, self-taught artist, talked about how a simple drawing made a big difference in his life. He told how the Internet was a treasure trove of information and knowledge, filled with tutorials of every kind where people were willing to provide what they knew free-of-charge.

He pointed things that other artists like himself may come up against like better artists, bitter criticism and lack of motivation but he gave a solution; attitude. Changing his attitude gave him new light and altered his perspectives.

Comfort In Discomfort

BY JOSEPHINE ON
@ VOL 6 ON DEC 19, 2015

Josephine On jumped out of her comfort zone and shared how her success started with ideas and mistakes. She shared how breaking through her negative feelings and thoughts by wanting to learn and experience new things and then bursting through her bubble of comfort made her start a new company, HoCo Creative.

By riding her rollercoaster of the unknown, Josephine conquered her fears and pushed herself through that barrier. From having a small start-up design company to exploring into product design, Joephine promoted outside-of-the-box thinking to the audience and hoped that her story could help other people like her who are still riding their rollercoaster ride.

A Journey Within

BY MALIK AZIZ
@ VOL 6 ON DEC 19, 2015

Malik Aziz had rejected multiple school trips during his school life and, feeling bored during the holidays, chose to join a camp excursion his friend encouraged. To his surprise, he was thrown into a huge question mark as the guide had only told them what to bring but not what to expect. And unexpected was he when he asked the simple question of “What next?” and was answered with, “I don’t know.”

The phrase think-outside-the-box was stretched to new horizons as his experience taught him new things about life and how to go about it. How to conquer his fears, to break barriers, to discover the full warmth of good company and sharing each others’ stories. And in those few days, Malik had learned more than he had ever thought he would.

Board With Life

BY AMIR NOOR
@ VOL 6 ON DEC 19, 2015

Amir Noor’s new year’s resolution got him rolling on a long board and he built a passion for the sport from his first board purchase. He took his board from the beach to a park to everywhere he went. When he received his permanent “Africa” scar, Amir temporarily stopped his long boarding days… until, that is, he bought his second board. And from there, his collection of boards continued to grow and his love for it became endless.

Amir wants to share his long board passion saying how it is not a juvenile activity but more than just a simple sport; something even more. He and his friends created a group where they could meet up with people, challenge each other and encourage people to participate in the activity.
