TwinStory Artists' Event

March 01, 2016
@ The Tin Music & Arts, Canal Basin Vaults

‘My City, My Art’

Web-enabled (un)conference pairing artists in the twin cities of Coventry and Volgograd to inspire partnership, the development of new work and identify the potential for exchanges. Open event for artists, and those interested in the way cities inspire them.

DOORS at 2.30, PRESENTATIONS TO START PROMPTLY AT 3pm.

The event should finish around 5pm, but the venue/bar will remain open for conversation and networking.

Our first 4 presentations are from artists based in Coventry.

Matthew Macaulay is a painter who, in addition to his own practice, organises the Plus Space Project, a peripatetic gallery exploring abstract painting.

Rachelle Viader Knowles is an artist and academic who works with a variety of media and collaborators and is Associate Head of the School of Art & Design at Coventry University.

Oliver Scott is Artistic Director of Mercurial Dance, which blends dance practice (often with young people) with digital trickery to create immersive audience environments.

Jane Hytch is Creative Producer at Imagineer UK, which creates large-scale events marked by an imaginative combination of arts and engineering.

After these four, we will have a short break before hearing from our colleagues in Volgograd:

Maria Melikhova is Head of Projects at the Mashkov Museum and Sergey Blokh is an academic – they are going to speak about their joint project $229,47

Elena Orlova is a graphic artist and Director of the Mashkov Museum of Fine Art in Volgograd, she is going to speak about her series of works “Ultramarine within the Limits of Possible”.

Vladislav Koval is a graphic artist who has designed stamps, medals and flags. He is going to talk about his T-Art transformer paintings which combine text and pictures to portray significant years of the century.

Natalia Medvedeva is a fine artist whose work is underpinned by a strong fictional narrative – she is going to talk about her project "Symbiosis" which explores her mythical system for a modern city.

There will also be 1 minute fims featuring: Jason Scott Tilley, Anne Forgan, Caroline Parkinson, John Yeadon, Albert Avdkodeyev, Varvara Ozerina, Yuri Gincharov, Dmitry Tur and Pavel Panferov.

Produced by Talking Birds www.talkingbirds.co.uk in association with Pecha Kucha Coventry.
