27 Million

BY AMY HEAGUE
@ VOL 2 ON JUN 26, 2014

“Not only is each victim the one, but we likewise can be the one.

The one called, the one listening, the one willing, the one sent to bring freedom and justice to innocent ones who are suffering. Being overwhelmed by the numbers is an indulgence the oppressed can ill afford.”

The statistics and numbers are overwhelming. There are currently an estimated 27 million men women & children held in slavery across the globe. Hundreds of thousands are trafficked across international borders every year. Many young girls find themselves trapped in a hell most of us could never imagine… The overwhelming statistics took Amy Heague to Cambodia. The one made her see she can do something that might just change the numbers.

"Presentation of the Day" on August 28, 2014.

Getting it Just Right

BY DAVID KERNICK
@ VOL 2 ON JUN 26, 2014

As a local surf life-saver and regular ski-paddler, David Kernick has spent many years on the beautiful local waterways or surfing the beaches. His view of the local area comes from a different perspective to most as he regularly paddles in the late afternoon light and has seen many spectacular sunsets. This passion for water and low light is reflected in much of his photographic work and he enjoys the peacefulness and serenity of shooting nature, water, and landscapes. David also loves the social interaction of portrait photography and watching his subjects develop in confidence, capturing their personalities and in particular seeing the smile on their faces when they see the final product.

"Presentation of the Day" on September 15, 2014.

The Impossibility Of Nature

BY SHONA WILSON
@ VOL 2 ON JUN 26, 2014

The repetitive use of natural detritus brings Shona Wilson closer to understanding the world we share. The materials themselves are storehouses of knowledge and information. They act as 'keys', unlocking doors to memory, science, history and imagination. Her current work increasingly responds to and reflects upon the cross-pollinations between nature, humans and culture, referencing in particular, plastics' invasion into the 'natural' world.
