Becoming a Citizen Architect

BY JEN STRINGER
@ ARCHEX PECHAKUCHA SESSION ON NOV 07, 2013

When you're an architect you meet a lot of people who say, "I always wanted to be an architect." Jen Stringer said that and she made it so, through inspiration, disillusion, perserverance, world setbacks, and life's other surprises. The subtitle to her presentation is "my journey into a place I never knew I always wanted to be." It's a good place. We should all be so lucky.

Evolution of Process and Design

BY RON SEMEL
@ ARCHEX PECHAKUCHA SESSION ON NOV 07, 2013

Ron Semel has a simple rationale for integrating process and design: if it doesn't break, you don't know what to fix. He starts off with the evolution of motocross, wanders through architectural design, and ends up at robotics. Even the design of his presentation seems to have a process to it!

Context, Scale, Meaning, Place

BY CHARLES PIPER
@ ARCHEX PECHAKUCHA SESSION ON NOV 07, 2013

Architect Charles Piper admits that his title may seem architectural and pretentious. As well, even though he admits it's just an excuse to show us some of his favorite places, those places sure can make you acutely aware of context, scale, meaning, and place the way he unfolds them.

"Presentation of the Day" on July 24, 2014.

The Center for Education at Wolf Trap

BY ANDY CALDWELL
@ ARCHEX PECHAKUCHA SESSION ON NOV 07, 2013

Wolf Trap is the only national park for the performing arts. As a member of the design team for their new headquarters building, Andy Caldwell shares some great images of the final product and walks us through the thought behind the design.

Garage Art

BY AHMED HASSAN
@ ARCHEX PECHAKUCHA SESSION ON NOV 07, 2013

A while ago, someone told Ahmed Hassan that he needed therapy, so he bought a motorcycle. Now his therapy sessions consist of drives through the countryside where he discovers the beauty and art in rusted treasures. Lucky for us, he carries a camera.
