Humans, plants, bacteria, fungi, and other animals show signs of a built-in 24-hour body clock -- this is what is known as the Circadian Rhythm.

In today's Presentation of the Day, "Circadian Rhythm" from PKN Wellington Vol. 18Philippa Gander goes into detail as to why oscillation is important to most lifeforms. Philippa is working to find a way to manipulate the circadian rhythm to help humans boldly go where none have been before.

What exactly is 'ecphrasis'? We'll give you a dollar if you can tell us without looking it up!*

In today's Presentation of the Day, "Ecphrasis" from PKN Wellington Vol. 18Marco Sonzogni, author of the book "How to Write a Painting", explains what the word 'ecphrasis' means by showing us just how difficult it is to capture the feelings of a painting in words. He performs an interesting an experiment by asking artists of all different skill levels to create a drawing or painting based on a short, poetic description of a painting.

If you're looking to partake in some local New Zealand creativity, PKN Wellington's Vol. 20 is certainly bound to be your cup of tea.The evening is themed around ingestion of all sorts, with a veritable cornucopia of food-related presenters to boot!

Kia ora all, we're in planning phase for the rest of the year.  And some damn fine sessions we've got in the pipeline:

July: PKN Globalista session, featuring the best of the world

19 August: our third PKN Wellington on a Plate Festival Imbibe Session

October: PKN KOKOMAI Creative Festival Wairarapa -  a trip over the hill to Carterton to spread our magic (http://kokomai.co.nz/).

November: Our last session of the year will be an extra special event at the National Library.

Back in the near future with other confirmed details and dates.    Nga mihi. saludos and all the best from the PKN Wellington team!

The PKN Wellington Performance Arcade session is being held at an auspicious time: Chinese New Year celebrations are in full swing, it's carnival time around the world and we've got a great lineup for Sunday night's session (8.30pm, Wellington Waterfront).   Featuring anything from  "A Concise History of New Zealand Race Relations in ...Abridged" to the Strike Percussion Music Director talking about the Batterie 100 schools project..."Passing on the Beat".   Special treats include our Surprise Presenters spot featuring 4 unsuspecting members of the audience stepping up to do a PKN presentation - plus a performance by Tim Whitta and some young people from Batterie 100 during the beer break.   Not to be missed - kia ora!

We're revving up for our first PKN session of 2013 with our annualoutdoors Performance Arcade Session in collaboration with the Playground (NZ Ltd) http://theplaygroundnz.com/

The Arcade venue comprises a series of containers featuring installations, performance art, live music, and works that travel through, or occupy spaces along the stunning Wellington Waterfront.

We're looking to feature our surprise presenters spot first trialled at our final session of 2012 - 5 people who volunteer on the spot to talk to images they've never seen before.   This proved to be one of the highlights of the October 2012 session.   Our brave presenters were all  from overseas - Russia, New York, Sweden, Chile and Germany.  New Zealanders were far too shy for the challenge.  We definitely need to have this presentation after the beer break  - not before - so more people can pluck up some 'Dutch courage' aided and abetted by the delights of the Performance Arcade bar!

The PKN Welly and Playground NZ crews are crossing fingers and toes for a fine and warm evening

We're just over a week away from Wellington's Vol. 18 (February 17) -- the "Performance Arcade Session 2013" -- and here's a look at the wonderful poster that was produced for the event. You'll of course find more details on the official event page, include the full list of presenters.
